With their deep commitment to the communities they serve, real estate agents are known for their involvement and concern for others. It’s no wonder then that for eXp Realty, the company’s nine core values were born directly from the company’s culture and vision of service.
When two devastating hurricanes hit in 2017, eXp’s two core values of community and service became the impetus for the creation of eXtend a Hand, a fund to help eXp Realty’s agents, staff and their immediate families experiencing hardship as a result of a catastrophic event.
Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 hurricane, hit parts of Texas and Louisiana hard in August 2017. In the immediate aftermath, eXp Realty agents gathered together in eXp’s virtual world and asked “what can we do to help?”
Glenn Sanford, founder of eXp World Holdings, responded to the outpouring of concern and need and set up a Go Fund Me page so agents and staff could at least contribute. Then, just months later, Hurricane Irma hit Florida and eXp employees and agents again felt the urgent need to help.
“The quick and natural reaction by our agent community in these times of distress is indicative of the compassion our agents have for one another,” said Scott Saghirian, Senior Vice President, Agent Experience. “eXp agents truly do embrace our core values of community and service, but especially being agile and acting with integrity in these times of need.”

eXp agent Lexy Sanchez, who is part of eXp’s Agent Advisory Council and the eXtend a Hand committee, recalls that time of devastation, loss and assistance.
“It was a big deal,” said Sanchez. “About 40 people met in the World on a Sunday afternoon and a call list was created to partner up and call agents and people who may have been affected. Those relationships turned into lifelong friendships.”
eXtend a Hand Funded From Agent and Staff Donations
eXtend a Hand Fund may have been created as a result of natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, fires and flooding, but it also now helps support individuals who may be facing unforeseen hardship, whether it’s the incapacity or loss of work due to health issues, domestic violence, family deaths, divorce, emergency surgeries and other unfortunate occurrences.
That support service also extends to pandemic health events. For agents, staff or immediate family members who may have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and require financial help, eXtend a Hand is welcoming applications for assistance.
Currently, funds for eXtend a Hand mainly come from the generosity of agents and staff at eXp, but during this coronavirus outbreak, eXp Realty is deferring all profits from its Preferred Partnership program to help boost eXtend a Hand’s surplus.
Currently, eXtend a Hand is in the process of obtaining non-profit status, which means donations will be tax-deductible – a welcome benefit for the generosity of those who donate — and systems will be set up for auto contributions for those who are interested.
