Editor’s note: In celebration of Gay Pride Month, we are featuring eXp agents who are allies and supporters of the LGBTQ community and promote their services, values, and commitments.

__________

In 2001, after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Fordham University, Nicole Borsey was working as a video editor in Stamford, Connecticut. But because of the dot-com crash in early 2000, she was considering real estate as a career.

“Due to the uncertainty of the tech industry and my interest in real estate as an investor, I saw an opportunity in sales,” Borsey said. “My mom had switched over to real estate in 1997, and she encouraged me to get a real estate license. I thought, ‘Alright, let’s see how well I can do in real estate. I’ll use my marketing background to set myself apart as a young new agent, 23 years old.

“My mom and I sat across from each other and fought tooth and nail, toe to toe to be the top producer. She loved it and couldn’t be more proud when I succeeded.”

Nicole says she doesn’t identify as LGBTQ, but her “real estate kid,” Liv Borsey (left) does. Nicole also adds that her mother’s best friend, who is gay, was a father figure to her.

In 2019, when Borsey was a managing broker for a real estate agency in New York and Connecticut, she was trying to decide whether she wanted to return to sales or continue with management. eXp Realty agent Jesse Dau suggested she explore eXp.

“It was Jesse who got on Zoom with me and told me I really needed to look at this,” Borsey said. “He shared his screen and we went to eXp World. I didn’t quite get it at first. He walked me through it and told me eXp offered about 50 hours a week of training and business meetings. I was blown away once I saw it all.”

Nicole was a car drag racer in the late 90s and early 2000s. Here she is in her mother’s best friend’s 1970 Plymouth Superbird — same as the one her mom drove.

As designated managing broker for Connecticut, Borsey manages and coaches more than 450 agents to increase production and streamline residential and commercial clients’ buying and selling process.

“I feel more connected in a cloud company here than I ever did at other companies,” Borsey said. “To me, eXp means the future of real estate. There is no brand out there that is on the forefront more than eXp as far as technology and understanding where the industry is headed.”

Borsey is also assisting with event planning, marketing and promotional videos for eXp’s Pride Celebration in June 2021.

“I don’t identify as LGBTQ, but my kid does and my mother’s best friend, who is gay, was a father figure to me,” Borsey said. “Gay rights are very important to me, and the eXp Pride Network and ONE eXp culture of community is out of this world. I consider myself a huge ally and advocate for the LGBTQ community.

“Sometimes you just go somewhere and it’s just a feeling. You know right away when something is meant for you, just like when a buyer walks through a home for the first time. It just feels right. eXp just ‘fit’ because it’s so inclusive with so many affinity groups. eXp is an ally, too.”
