It’s a Celebration About Independence

Hispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration of America’s Hispanic community who hail from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observance began as a week-long event in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson, but was extended to a period of a month under President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Interestingly, HHM starts on the 15th of the month to celebrate the independence of five Latin American countries from Spain in 1821: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. A few days later, Mexico, Chile, and Belize achieved their independence, respectively, on the 16th, 18th and 21st of September.

Juan Alvarez, Chairman of eXp’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month said, “Our Latino culture at eXp is rich in knowledge, talent, and ideas. For me, Hispanic Heritage Month is about raising awareness of our community. It is the time of year when we observe the unique contribution that Latinos have made in the history of the United States.”

Alvarez said he, along with EVP International Expansion Michael Valdes and eXp ICON Agent Veronica Figueroa will kick off the event on Tuesday, Sept. 15 with opening remarks, followed by details on the month-long program. Activities include:

  • eXpo Open House
  • Interviews with top industry leaders
  • Spanish-language classes in eXp University
  • U.S. Hispanic housing report
  • Rising Latino stars at eXp introduced
  • Speakers from the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP)
  • Diversity and Inclusion – The Latino Perspective

“We see organizations like eXp Realty that provide an effective business model for a successful career, financial growth, and personal development for Latinos,” said Alvarez. “eXp Realty recognizes the importance of providing a high degree of education and training so that its agents can prepare to serve their clients to a high degree. eXp Realty supports its agents and is committed to providing opportunities to help them be successful.”
