It started as a kid selling chocolate bars in South Los Angeles, then cell phones. But Jose Perez had bigger goals: Helping people buy and sell homes.

He took his natural talent as a salesman and over the past 8 years built his own brokerage. In the first year, NUEVA Real Estate was one of the top 10 agencies in Downey, California. In 2021, the boutique brokerage commanded $100 million in sales. And now Jose has brought his 50-agent team to eXp Realty.

“I started my company name and brand from scratch. No big brand affiliation or experience. My brand builds on putting people first, not commissions or numbers. We are in the business of opening relationships not closing transactions. We build on being of service to our clients and putting their goals and interests first,’’ Perez said.

Having grown up in a rough neighborhood, but under the influence of his hardworking and Mexico-born parents, Jose is a tireless advocate for home ownership and community service, volunteering for the City of Hope and other service organizations. 

As much as Perez likes to give help, he knew when it was time to get help. With business booming, Perez knew his team could really benefit from eXp Realty’s services and support.

“Being independent, I had limited resources, tools, systems and support. I was running everything myself and knew my growth was limited to my expertise and resources. I wanted to be part of something bigger where my agents can expand their potential as well,’’ Perez said.

Where are you/your team based?

“We are based in Downey and Newbury Park, California. The name NUEVA, which means “New” in Spanish, was my way of creating a name and a brand that many generations could understand and relate to.”

Who introduced you to eXp?

“I was introduced to eXp four years ago by Tanairy Felix and Leo Robles, but it was not the right time then. They followed up for four years and it was finally the right time. I joined because of the great platform eXp offers the agents with revenue share and stock ownership as well as all the tools, resources and leadership. I wanted to scale my business bigger and felt this was the right company to do it with.” 

What are your impressions of eXp so far

“So far I am loving all the support from corporate, the kvCORE system and the leadership and training I am getting.”
