Motivation. It’s a word Jon Lahey lives by for himself and for his agents, which is perhaps why his 20-agent team closed on an impressive 258 transactions for nearly $95 million in gross sales in 2020 in the Washington, D.C. area. It’s also why he chose to join eXp Realty in April 2021.

“eXp fit my vision of where I want to take my real estate team,” said Lahey. “I never enjoyed the day-to-day management of our brokerage, and partnering with a company like eXp allows me to focus on the part of my business that I truly enjoyed — inspiring, and empowering real estate agents, helping them create a sustainable and scalable business model that will serve their life, helping them not only make a great living, but to also be able to spend quality time with the ones they love… ultimately achieving fine living.”

Jon Lahey’s team did $95 million on 258 transactions in 2020.

Lahey is one to know about fine living. He’s an agent to the stars, with a page of testimonials from such luminaries as Barbara Corcoran and Ryan Seacrest. He just recently handled a multimillion listing for an NFL tight end. But just because he handles A-list celebrities doesn’t mean he doesn’t cater to the everyday buyer and seller.

“To be successful in life, you need to wow people,” said Lahey, who drew a parallel of his philosophy to Disneyland where lines for rides can be hours long. He says people are willing to wait in line because it’s a feeling Disney provides. “I like to approach my business the same way. If we can make people feel loved, cared and served, they will come back. That’s what I instill in my team.”

Lahey says finding what motivates his team is not always easy and it’s not always about money.

“With every one of my agents, I try to find their motivation and their ‘why.’ And then I keep them focused on that emotion,” said Lahey. “Mainly, people want to feel appreciated and heard. Now, instead of spending a lot of money on marketing, I created a culture fund and spend money on my agents and celebrate their successes with lunches and dinners.”

Lahey is very excited by eXp’s commitment to personal development and training. He himself is a disciple of Tony Robbins and traveled with him on coaching and motivational seminars throughout 2019.

“I love eXp’s training. There’s such a hunger for growth and learning. Organizations who invest in their agents? It’s huge.”

What makes eXp special to you?

“I knew coming into 2021 that I needed to align my team/company with a brokerage model that is aligned with our ultimate vision. I found that with eXp. When I spoke with my management and my leadership teams I expected some pushback, instead, I had 100% support from every single person on the team.”

Best tip to share with other agents:

“Align with a company that is aligned with your vision and your values. Also, if you want to be successful in life, don’t focus on what you’re getting, instead focus on how you can contribute and bring value to every person you encounter. If you focus on that, the rest will be easy.”
