Everything’s bigger in Texas, and this announcement is no exception. Two heavyweights in the Houston and Austin real estate markets are joining the eXp Realty family, including the Ronnie and Cathy Matthews Group and the Mike Seder Group. While they are separate teams, they are close, longtime associates and friendly competitors at RE/MAX who developed trust and friendship over the years, which led them both to consider eXp simultaneously. 

Within each of the groups are extended sets of smaller, high-producing teams and independent agents from RE/MAX who also plan on joining. Currently, 30 agents have joined and altogether, more than 45 agents across each of these powerhouses will join eXp Realty in the coming months.  

Ronnie and Mike said, “We are very comfortable that this is the beginning of a wave. We don’t do anything halfway.”  

Ronnie and Cathy Matthews Team Being Reborn

For 18 years, Ronnie and Cathy Matthews dominated as the No. 1 team in Texas, known as The Ronnie & Cathy Matthews Team. In 2016, they took a unique step by selling the team to their employees, while retaining their licenses with their namesake brokerage. Ronnie spent two years consulting with the newly fledged team while expanding into other business ventures. Now, they are excited to reunite with their former colleagues from The Matthews Team and relaunch as the Ronnie & Cathy Matthews Group.

In Ronnie and Cathy’s career, they sold over 15,000 homes with a value of over $4 billion.

After selling their team, Ronnie and Cathy went in different business directions. Ronnie focused on his Great American Title company, which he started in 2006 with just five people. In the last few years, he grew it to 175 employees and 13 offices in the Houston area.  Ronnie is in the process of selling that company by March 2024.

Ronnie also develops land. He and his business partner buy raw land, install streets and utilities, and then sell the lots to home builders. He has developed 25 subdivisions to date and over 10,000 lots. He currently has about 1,000 acres of land they are developing in three communities.

Meanwhile, Cathy did a 180-degree turn from real estate. She devoted herself to their dog rescue operation, Tootsie Dog Rescue,” which is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit that prepares homeless and rescued dogs for adoption. It is estimated the nonprofit saves about 500 dogs a year. “It’s her passion!” said Ronnie.

Tootsie Dog Rescue is part of The Ronnie and Cathy Matthews Great American Charitable Foundation they created in 2016. In addition to Tootsie’s, the foundation focuses on causes near and dear to their hearts, including Lola’s Lucky Day, Inc., Happy Hill Farm Academy, and Montgomery County Women’s Center. 

The Twist of How the eXp Idea Was Planted

Heather Chavana, the general manager/broker associate of The Matthews Team and other team members, first considered the idea of joining eXp Realty and then presented it to Ronnie and Cathy, who, in turn, presented it to Ally and Mike Seder.

“We’ve seen a lot of changes in the real estate industry and realized that you always have to look ahead and what’s good for the longevity of the team,” said Heather. “eXp is the future of real estate. eXp’s collaboration, training and tech will make us stronger, bigger and better. Revenue share is an added benefit.”

Heather said eXp Realty’s Jimmy and Andrew Franklin were also instrumental in providing insight into what eXp can offer. As a result, The Matthews Team – and its nine agents – will join the Ronnie and Cathy Matthews Group.

In 2022, The Matthews Team closed on 1,050 units for $390,983,703 in sales volume.

12 Agents Moving to eXp With the Mike Seder Group

After 25 years with RE/MAX, amassing over $3 billion in sales, Mike Seder, Founder and CEO of the Mike Seder Group said the time is right and will bring 12 agents to eXp, including himself and his wife, Ally, and their two sons, Patrick and Brett. 

In addition, Mike co-owned a RE/MAX office with Brian Schweiker, who will bring three agents with him and two staff members. Within Mike and Brian’s office are many independent, high-producing agents who also plan on joining eXp, including Bill Smith, Ray Larson, Gary Stallings, and the Jamie Bechtold Group.

Mike and Ally are both fluent in Spanish and plan to expand their production across borders in the U.S. and globally. They are very compassionate and have huge hearts for helping those in need, volunteering and giving generously to multiple charitable organizations.  Ally serves on the boards for the Montgomery County Women’s Center, Canopy at Memorial Hermann Hospital, and Texas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and was named a Hometown Hero in 2015 as well as a Woman of Distinction.  In their free time, they enjoy traveling, spending time with their family, and walking their Corgi, Scout.
