Ruben Hernandez has always brought a deep sense of purpose and mission to his real estate career. His proud service in the U.S. Marines is the pivotal foundation on which he built EGA Homes, a Southern California-based independent brokerage that closed on $47,449,556 million in sales on 106 units in 2023. 

“Creating a real estate company focused on assisting fellow veterans has helped me connect the dots and carry out the Marine Corps motto, ‘Semper Fidelis,’ which stands for ‘always faithful,’ ” Ruben said. EGA stands for “Eagle, Globe and Anchor” – the official emblem and insignia of the U.S. Marine Corps.  

When it comes to best practices and due diligence, Ruben and his wife, Jenn, do not rest on the past, or the status quo. Even during a stellar year of sales in 2023, Ruben researched eXp Realty and understood how a switch could help his company.

“After learning more about the tools and resources eXp can provide our agents, it was a no-brainer. We always put our agents’ best interests first, and giving them access to eXp’s marketing tools, training, and support is how we can help them improve their operations,’’ Ruben said in announcing he and his team of 54 agents and three support staff joined eXp in December 2023.

So far, so very good, Jenn said. 

“Everyone has been extremely welcoming and excited to have us on board. We are constantly collaborating on ways to get our agents more business. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and the agents are starting to find ways to implement the marketing resources into their marketing strategies,’’ Jenn said.  

EGA Homes Advocates for Veterans and Military Members

While many brokers and agents understand that specialized service for niche markets is a way to build clientele and expertise, EGA Homes takes action. Ruben’s involvement includes:

  • Founding the Veterans Housing Alliance (VHA), a non-profit organization working towards eradicating veteran homelessness and increasing the percentage of veteran homeownership.
  • Promoting Boots to Suits, a program providing guidance and workforce development for active duty, military personnel, reservists, veterans, and their spouses to build a successful real estate career. 
  • Offering the Accelerated Agent Academy, which educates those interested in getting their real estate license in a fast-paced program.

Ruben also actively works to reduce the rate of veteran suicides, which currently stands at approximately 22 per day. He oversees burial details at Riverside National Cemetery, to ensure that Marines are properly interred. 

While veterans continue to comprise a large percentage of the overall homeless population, PTSD and suicide rates, Ruben and Jenn “fight to do all they can to stop this epidemic.”
