As the middle child in a family of five kids, I was born into competition,” laughs Kevin Mullaney. Growing up as a go-getter — and the son of a successful entrepreneur — Mullaney instinctively knew that he wanted to start his own business one day.

And his entrepreneurial skills were evident very early on.

“My dad quit playing Monopoly with me when I was seven because he stopped winning,” he shares.

“I fell in love with real estate at age 20 when I bought my first house,” recalls Mullaney. “I finished my degree and took a sales management job but quickly burned out. In 2012, I realized what I was looking for all along: a career in real estate. I dove headfirst into my business with eXp Realty and never looked back.”

Now a four-time ICON agent averaging 60 referral closings a year, Mullaney leads one of eXp’s top-producing real estate groups in New Mexico. He’s also a devoted husband and proud father of two little girls.

As he explains, “I have three goals in life. My first goal is to be a rock-star husband and father. My second goal is to take over the real estate world. And my third goal is to balance goals one and two.”

Mullaney says that eXp’s business model allows him to pursue all three wholeheartedly. “The model itself is a lifestyle,” he says. “We love traveling, so I wanted to be able to work from anywhere. eXp gives me the freedom to take my business wherever I want to be. “Between getting ready, sitting in traffic and playing catch-up afterward, a 30-minute meeting across town is really a half-day killer,” notes Mullaney. “Having a meeting on the cloud means I can work right up until the meeting starts and get right back to production when it ends. A 30-minute meeting in the cloud is literally only 30 minutes of my day, and I love it.”

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Having the time and financial freedom to travel when I want to, work because I like to and be present like I need to. 

If you could add a tattoo, what would it be?

It would be a roadmap of my life. All the twists, turns, bumps, jumps, stops and starts. I would title it “Dad’s life on blast!” 

One thing you can’t live without?

Caffeine (it’s not profound, but it’s literally a big part of my life).  

One trait that has led to your success?

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being excellent:  Integrity 10; over-communicating with clients 10; pushing through setbacks 9; problem-solving 8; emotional stability 8; positive attitude 7; fun department 7.

What celebrity would play you in a movie or TV show?

Ryan Reynolds. He has all the attitude and jokes, but still gets the job done! 

Pet peeve?

Doing things right the SECOND time! (See what I did there?) 

Little known fact about yourself?

I have an uncanny ability to nail random acts of awesomeness! Make an over-the-shoulder blind basketball shot? No problem! Stand still from the free-throw line? I’ll miss every time. 

Song you never tire of?

“Sun is Shining” by Axwell & Ingrosso. Or, anything 80’s that pops. 

Favorite meal?

Lasagna or street tacos. Or, depending on the time of day, a bloody mary. Also brick-oven pizza.
