In February 2020, after 19 years as a broker associate in northwest Florida — a destination known for its emerald green water and ground quartz crystal sand — Nathan Abbott launched his own independent brokerage. 

Nine months later, although his brokerage was named to the Inc. 5000 list of Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America, Abbott closed it to join eXp Realty.

In 2020, Abbott’s team closed on $108,000,000 in sales on 216 transactions.

“I realized it’s a tough career path,” Abbott said. “The challenge of being an independent broker was that everyone looked to you for all resources of growth. I feared that there would be more paperwork if we joined a global company like eXp, but it has simplified the process and has provided great exposure. eXp has created an extra component that allows people to have multiple ways to build business. To have that global connection to a fast-growing company has helped our momentum.”

Abbott says his team has grown from 12 to 32 agents since joining eXp in November 2020.

“eXp allows us to have more options for our agents,” Abbott said. “Are you an agent who needs more help or one who wants to partner on-brand as an independent? We can remain partners in this brand instead of agents in someone else’s.”

Abbott also appreciates how the eXp World platform offers more than 50 hours of live training each week.

The Abbott Team’s recent sales include luxury high-rises and a new master-planned community between the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Powell, along with a focus on primary residential homes and vacation properties. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Abbott Team has adapted how they show properties, providing video tours to socially distance and hosting more virtual meetings. 

“One of the biggest driving factors of eXp that I heard was, if you’re not leveraged in a cloud-based business, you’ll get behind the curve of where future business is going, especially with COVID,” Abbott said. “To me, eXp means exponential growth. I’m excited about what the future holds. My vision is to leave the industry better than it started, and to make an impact on the people I serve.”

“Grew my team from 12 agents to 32 in 60 days. In 2020 we closed $108 million in sales with 216 transactions. Within the first quarter of joining eXp in 2021, we are already at 153 transactions and $100 million in closed and pending deals.”

“How fast it is growing and how great the collaboration is.”

Have you had any experience or success around eXp’s global revenue share and commercial businesses?

“I am just getting started in growing the revenue share component, but any leveraged income is valuable.”

“I have already built good relationships through a lot of different people.”

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Snowboarding down a huge face with 5 feet of fresh powder or chilling on the boat on our beautiful Emerald Coast in Destin, Florida.

Who is the person you most admire?
My parents. They have always been there for me with love and encouragement. They taught me to work hard and to be resilient. They are the real deal.

One thing you can’t live without?
My family.

Pet peeve?
A mess left on our kitchen counter.

Little known fact about yourself?
I hiked 130 miles over 30 days through Wyoming, over the rugged wilderness and the Continental Divide.
