Most people run from telephone prospecting, but David Hill runs to it. He’s built a career on cold-calling, and wrote a book with the introduction referencing “the power of the phone.” After 17 and a half years doing real estate with a large brokerage in Central Massachusetts, the multi-talented agent has chosen to join eXp Realty for a variety of reasons.
“My personal belief is the industry is evolving a lot, but there can be a lot of internal friction,” said Hill, who was a team leader. “The challenge is you have 850 other chiefs in the system and it’s very difficult to expand. Anyone who understands real estate at a high level gets it. For agents who just want to do their business, there is amazing technology, tools, and an abundance of excellent training here. eXp is a frictionless system, which works for agents at any level, from a brand-new agent to a $300 million team or brokerage.”
Not only is eXp’s borderless business model attractive to Hill, but being rewarded for growing the company was alluring as well. Hill spoke with eXp top producer Tom Truong from Boston who shared more about how he’s benefited from eXp’s revenue share program. Hill was blown away.
“I thought, ‘why not take advantage of this opportunity?’ I was either going independent or with eXp,” said Hill who said he also chose eXp to be in partnership with other, impressive brokers who moved over, including Devin Doherty and Sean Goerss of Thrive Network.

Hill’s background has always been sales. First with Kirby vacuums, then a credit card company and then selling ads for a publishing company. One day, his 10-year-old daughter came home and said her friend’s mother “makes a lot of money in real estate. You should do that.’”
He took his daughter’s advice and the next day, started his real estate journey and hasn’t looked back. He has consistently closed on about $20 to $25 million in sales volume on approximately 75 to 112 units a year, and he found time to write “The Sales Playbook: 11 Simple Strategies to Close More Sales” in 2014. He left sales in 2017, joining Keller Williams’ leadership team where he was a university trainer.
Hill joined eXp in April 2020. “I wanted to be part of something bigger,” said Hill. “I’m into technology and feel like eXp is the next evolution.”
He says for years he paid thousands of dollars a month for tech such as CRMs and lead generation tools that are part of eXp’s innovative technology platform and low monthly fees.
“I love the ability to earn revenue share income and be part of a high-level network,” said Hill. “I love disruption. In my opinion, eXp is the Netflix, AppleTV or Uber of real estate.”
