As a leader in finance transformation, eXp World Holdings Chief Accounting Officer Kent Cheng has built an exceptional finance team that has enabled eXp World Holdings and its subsidiaries to scale globally. In 2021, he oversaw financial reporting for a record full-year revenue of $3.8 billion. He brings decades of expertise in global finance, accounting and information technology, and colleagues say that he is a diplomatic, encouraging leader. In recognition of this, Kent was named a HousingWire 2022 Finance Leader.
Kent is the second eXp executive to win this award, which Chief Financial Officer Jeff Whiteside won in 2021. Established in 2021, the HousingWire Finance Leaders award honors the top finance executives who are driving financial performance, expanding margins, improving liquidity and helping their businesses access the capital markets. HousingWire selects finance leaders based on their professional achievements within their organizations, contributions to the overall housing economy, client impact and personal success.
“When we launched the Finance Leaders award in 2021, HousingWire sought to recognize the forward-thinking finance executives who contributed to their organizations’ financial growth and strategic missions despite the challenges of the pandemic,” said Clayton Collins, CEO of HW Media. “We never anticipated the volatile mortgage rate environment, supply and demand imbalances and overall market challenges that housing executives have endured over the last twelve months. HousingWire Finance Leaders are truly masters at managing liquidity, executing M&A and strategic deals and developing impenetrable balance sheets to position their businesses for enduring success.”
Working with the Innovation and Technology Department, Kent implemented a new financial system, strengthening finance and accounting processes and improving internal controls. By ensuring that the preparation and analysis of financial reports comply with all applicable regulations, he has helped eXp to continue its rapid growth trajectory and expand its international footprint. He also helped the company navigate foreign market securities and taxation laws, earning eXp recognition from the Global Equity Organization in November 2021.
While Kent has high expectations for his team, he offers the necessary support, mentorship, vision and humor to make those goals a reality. He is also adept at directing cross-departmental teams and considering multiple perspectives while driving the company’s goals and growth.
He continues to scale the eXp Finance Team by recruiting, coaching, and retaining top finance talent with diverse experiences and competencies. He has improved teamwork and communication, exemplifying eXp’s core values of community, collaboration and transparency.
“These formidable finance executives are made up of strategic leaders who are paving the way for the future of housing finance at a pivotal time in the housing market,” HousingWire Editor and Chief Sarah Wheeler said. “Not only are this year’s honorees balancing budgets and driving growth, they’re also teachers and mentors who are working across organizational boundaries, influencing team members and encouraging excellence throughout their organizations.”
