Bic DeCaro’s decision to join eXp Realty mirrors the experience of many top real estate agents across the U.S. who have seen the future with this dynamic virtual brokerage.  

After 20 years as the top-producer at her brother’s real estate company in Northern Virginia, closing over a quarter billion in sales, her success was already confirmed. But like most driven and successful agents, DeCaro believed there was another level of growth out there for her.

Beyond eXp’s attractive business model, DeCaro values eXp for its collaboration and technology.

While attending an annual real estate forum in 2019, she met a group of eXp Realty agents, who impressed her with their leadership, success and level of collaboration. She was eager to understand how eXp worked and what drew these top agents to the company.

After she got the eye-opening rundown on the business model and tools eXp Realty puts at the disposal of their agents, DeCaro knew it was a perfect match and time for her to make a move.

“The real estate industry is constantly changing and I knew I wanted to align myself with a group that was leading the way with its people, technology and global reach.”

DeCaro had been approached by several brokers and CEOs to come join them, but in the end, eXp offered what she wanted most: partnerships with some of the most successful agents in the industry, the ability to grow nationally, financial rewards for mentorship and innovative technology.

“By the end of our meeting, I thought to myself, ‘This is a no-brainer. Where have I been?’” said DeCaro of her meeting with eXp’s Dan Beer, Kyle Whissel and Jeremy Larson. “They laid out the model and shared the intricate details of what they were doing in their businesses — things I could take back and apply immediately in my own business. I loved that they were showing me and not just telling and selling me.”

Being Rewarded for Mentorship Was Attractive to DeCaro

DeCaro was wowed not only by eXp’s business model, but she liked the benefits of revenue sharing and being rewarded for mentorship — something she had enjoyed doing for years though didn’t cross her mind that she could be compensated for it. 

And all of this came from a simple fender-bender 20 years ago that would help shape her professional direction and eventually lead her to a successful career in real estate.

Fresh out of college and armed with her psychology degree, DeCaro was driving to Virginia Beach to start her new life when she got into a car accident. Needing a rental car, the team at Enterprise quickly identified her winning attitude and energy and recruited her on the spot. 

“Enterprise was a great first job out of college,” DeCaro says with a laugh. “We worked really hard putting in long hours but had a lot of fun and experienced great training.”

After working at Enterprise for almost four years, DeCaro’s brother, Vinh Nguyen, recruited her to return closer to home in Northern Virginia to join his real estate firm at Westgate Realty Group. While DeCaro got her license and joined the firm, she also took a job as an Executive Director of Business Development with Attorneys Healthcare Collections (now Convergent USA), traveling to hospitals around the country while working part-time as a real estate agent. The dual role paid off. DeCaro had a ready-made portfolio of real estate clients: the attorneys and executives she worked with. 

DeCaro has closed over a quarter billion in sales in the past 20 years in the Northern Virginia market.

Eventually, DeCaro went into real estate full time and ended up working with her brother for the next 20 years. 

“I’m very grateful that my brother was supportive and encouraging of my decision to join eXp. He saw it as a great match and the logical next step in building my business.”

DeCaro is amazed at eXp’s deep resources and marketing tools, plus having access to top producing teams and leaders around the country.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being at peace; knowing and living out your purpose. Traveling and creating new, fun memories with family and friends without having to rush back or worry about anything.  

If you could add a tattoo, what would it be?

I’m not a fan of tattoos for myself but if I had to get one, maybe a small heart.

One thing you can’t live without?

My family and my cell phone. 

One trait that has led to your success?

Determination.

What celebrity would play you in a movie or TV show?

Gal Gadot. (Ha! I wish!)

Pet peeve?

Brown nosers/fake people.

Little known fact about yourself?

I only recently discovered my “real” birthday because my family came to the U.S. as refugees when I was 1 after the fall of Saigon so I didn’t have any documentation when we arrived in the United States.

Song you never tire of?

“Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. 

Favorite meal?

Toss up between pho and sushi.
