For Janie, a 15th-generation St. Augustine, Florida native who has led two successful teams in Florida, the world is literally her oyster now.
“I am a massive extreme traveler and I’m on a mission to visit every country in the world. I often travel solo and love it. I have been to Antarctica where I slept on an ice shelf without a tent during a blizzard,’’ she said, adding that her most-admired person in the world is a woman named Luisa Yu, “who finished her journey to travel to every country in the world at 79 years old!”
No Limits, Yet All the Rewards and Adventure
After leading real estate teams at Compass and Sotheby’s and revving up sales as a team leader, recruiter and brain-stormer, Janie wanted more direct results. On July 1, 2021, she made what she considered a bold switch to eXp Realty and its agent-centric model.
“I switched for the growth opportunity as a real estate entrepreneur versus just selling homes or leading a team that sells homes. I love the entrepreneurial, multiple streams of income ethos of eXp,’’ she said.
eXp’s collaborative culture is also key, allowing Janie to make connections and grow her business according to her goals. She is so invested in eXp that she helped create the eXp Luxury division where she is co-chair.
“The collaboration is something I’ve never seen before. At traditional brokerages, there is often a ‘share, but not too much’ way of being. At eXp, it truly is a ‘rising boat floats all boats’ mentality, even if other brokerages want to say that it is not due to ‘silos’ which is a myth,’’ she said.
Janie is proud to report that her Gorgeous Florida Homes Network just eclipsed $100 million in sales for the past 12 months, with an average home price of $700K.
eXp’s Innovative Model Allows Flexibility and Creative Entrepreneurship
The business of real estate had also changed, Janie said. She needed to find a brokerage that was innovative.
“The concept of generating all my own business, yet paying a split that never caps, seems ridiculous now. We are our own brands. I am happy to pay my broker something, but not a never-ending split, all the way through December 31st every year. That money now goes into my own business, investments and savings, not the broker or staff and rent fancy offices that don’t contribute to my success,’’ she said.
The best part of being at eXp is the freedom Janie has to do business from anywhere. In fact, eXp is how she can achieve her perfect sense of happiness: “Full-time travel, one bag, to exotic, remote and unusual places!”
