You are conscientious and take extra steps to dot your i’s and cross your t’s on behalf of your clients, ensuring that they get the best deal possible. But do you apply the same level of thought to your own safety?
September is Realtor® Safety Month and as a real estate agent, now is a good time to ensure that you are making safety a year-round priority.
Here are some best practices that the National Association of Realtors (NAR) recommends:
- Make sure you are following the safety protocols of your state or local associations.
- Dedicate time to safety training each month. NAR offers several webinars, videos and articles about safety.
- Download the Real Safe Agent app. You can request buddies to accompany you to appointments, read agent reviews of potential clients and alert the police to your location if you are in danger. You can also report critical Realtor safety-related issues to NAR.
- Plan your safety strategy. Examples include always meeting new clients at the office or neutral location, like a coffee shop; sharing your schedule with a colleague, assistant or family member; not hosting open houses alone; and directing clients to walk in front of you when touring a property.
