A Sneak Peek at eXpcon Salt Lake City’s Opening and Closing Receptions

The inspiration behind Electric Bloom and The Frontier had us scrolling much longer than planned. Now it’s your turn.

The Events team gave us an early look at the inspiration boards behind Electric Bloom, eXpcon’s official opening reception, and The Frontier, the closing reception and final celebration of the week.

We planned to scroll for five minutes.

Forty-five minutes later, we were still zooming in on details, sending screenshots back and forth, and wondering how many outfits one suitcase could realistically hold.

Long before the lights come on and thousands of agents walk through the doors, every eXpcon experience starts as a collection of ideas. A color palette. A texture. A Pinterest board. A conversation that begins with, “What if?”

The Events team invited us behind the curtain. Now we’re bringing you with us.

Two receptions. Two completely different personalities.

One of the first things we noticed was how intentionally distinct these experiences feel.

Electric Bloom is designed to kick off the week with energy, curiosity, and a sense that anything could happen next. The Frontier answers something else entirely, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can celebrate the week before heading home.

They do not compete with one another. They complement each other.

Together, they bookend eXpcon with two distinct experiences, each designed to leave its own impression.

We owe Electric Bloom an apology.

We will admit it.

When we first heard the name, our minds immediately went to florals. Maybe a few hanging installations. Something soft.

Then we opened the inspiration board. We could not have been more wrong.

The creative direction is alive with movement, layered lighting, bold color and immersive moments that encourage you to keep exploring. It feels modern, energetic and just mysterious enough to make you wonder what is around the next corner.

Every time we thought we had found our favorite detail, we scrolled a little farther and discovered another.

The Frontier had almost the opposite effect.

If Electric Bloom feels like turning the volume up, The Frontier feels like taking a deep breath.

Warm woods, mountain-inspired textures, and golden-hour tones create an atmosphere that feels relaxed without losing its sense of occasion. The gathering spaces immediately caught our attention. You can almost picture the conversations, the photos, and the “one more minute before we go” moments that always seem to happen at the end of a great event.

It reminded us that the most memorable celebrations are not always the loudest ones. Sometimes they are simply the ones you never want to leave.

Somewhere around our fifteenth scroll, we stopped looking at the big ideas and started paying attention to the smaller ones. The lighting tucked into unexpected places. The way colors quietly repeat throughout a space. The materials. The subtle nods to Salt Lake City.

Most attendees probably will not notice those details individually. Together, they are the reason an experience feels intentional the moment you walk into the room.

That is the kind of design we appreciate.

Can colors have personalities?

Apparently. Electric Bloom practically hums with energy. The Frontier settles into warm, grounded tones inspired by the surrounding landscape. Even without the labels, we would know exactly which reception belonged to which board. That is thoughtful design.

We may have started planning outfits.

These inspiration boards practically dared us. Electric Bloom feels like the perfect excuse to wear something bold. The Frontier leans timeless, effortless and just polished enough for one last celebration. No dress code. Just inspiration.

How Does This Come Together?

If you have ever wondered how a Pinterest board becomes a real experience, Mindy Grubb, Vice President of Events, and Lauryn Freedlund, Director of Experiential Marketing, is exactly who you would want to ask.

Mindy laughed when we asked where every reception begins.

“Usually with someone saying, ‘I have an idea,’ and someone else replying, ‘Okay, hear me out,’” Mindy reveals. “Pinterest is where we dream a little. It is where we collect ideas, challenge each other and start asking, ‘What if?’ Then the fun begins as we figure out how to make those ideas feel unmistakably eXp.”

For Mindy and Lauryn, inspiration boards are where the conversation starts.

“The inspiration board gives us a feeling to chase, but the fun part is figuring out how to translate that feeling into a real space,” says Lauryn. “It’s never about recreating an image exactly. It’s about pulling the colors, textures, lighting and little unexpected moments together so the experience feels completely its own.”

When we asked what matters most, Mindy never mentioned décor.

She talked about people.

“We always start with one question: ‘How do we want people to feel?’ Once we answer that, every creative decision has a purpose.”

Then, as you would expect from someone who leads a highly creative team, she shifted the spotlight away from herself.

“Watching everyone build on each other’s ideas is honestly my favorite part. One person brings an image. Someone else sees something completely different. Before you know it, you have created something none of us would have imagined alone.”

After seeing these concepts, it is easy to understand why her team has earned such a loyal following among agents.

The best part is not on the inspiration boards.

That is what surprised us most.

The inspiration boards are beautiful. They will help shape the lighting, textures and gathering spaces.

But they cannot capture the part that ultimately matters most.

The conversation that turns into a friendship. The reunion you did not know you needed. The photo that becomes next year’s profile picture. The memories you will still be talking about long after eXpcon ends.

That is the one detail no inspiration board can plan for.

Thankfully.
