Murphy Was a Former Football Standout With Texas A&M Before Going Pro With Green Bay Packers
Terrence Murphy Sr. has been sought-after his entire life. As a Texas high school quarterback-turned-wide receiver, he was fiercely recruited by 17 Division I colleges. He chose Texas A&M.
After college, many NFL teams also wooed Murphy, as did sports agents. In the 2005 NFL Draft, he was chosen 58th overall by the Green Bay Packers — the same year All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers was selected 28th. Murphy and Rodgers ended up as roommates during training camp.
But when a neck injury ended Murphy’s promising pro career after just three games, he turned to real estate, only to be heavily recruited there, too. He joined Keller Williams. But after one year, Murphy started his own independent brokerage, TM5, with his wife, Erica in June 2011.
Now, after 10 years, selling nearly a billion dollars in sales on 6,000 transactions, he was hungry for expansion. Once again, he was wooed. Every team and brokerage imaginable wanted Murphy, who chose to join eXp Realty in February 2021.
“The biggest thing I was feeling is that I was an island. I’m naturally a lone wolf, grinding and figuring it out. But as you build and build it gets tiresome,” said Murphy, who chose eXp for his ability to expand and be part of an entire brokerage built on collaboration.

When Terrence’s NFL career ended abruptly, he needed a Plan B. After praying and asking God to “give him something to be passionate about,” he and Erica conceived of “an idea on a napkin in a small college town.”
From their base in College Station, Texas, they got their real estate licenses and began investing in real estate, buying properties. But it didn’t stop there. Ever the entrepreneur, 10 real estate-centric companies sprung from that napkin-math day in 2011, including their luxury custom home building company and development, property management, investing, mortgage broker, insurance, construction, design, coaching … well, you name it.
“We are enjoying the ride,” said Terrence of the tremendous success he and Erica are experiencing. “Everything is earned, not given. We both grew up with single moms. They taught us we could achieve what we put our minds to.”
