Cincinnati’s Monika DeRoussel points to one particular event as being a major impetus for joining eXp Realty. 

In early 2019, she was working for a major national brokerage, thinking about opening her own boutique business when she contracted pneumonia and mononucleosis. It sidelined her for a couple of months and resulted in an “off-year” for her, doing $24 million in sales on 87 transactions. These numbers are impressive for any agent anywhere, but for DeRoussel, she was frustrated with the slowdown. Also, if she wasn’t firing on all cylinders, how could she generate business? 

Monika DeRoussel was the No. 1 agent for a leading brokerage in Ohio since 2011.

Fast forward a few months and DeRoussel was appearing on the American Dream TV show where she met fellow real estate agents Jay and Ashley Nelson from Nashville. They all hit it off immediately. The Nelsons were with eXp Realty and explained the eXp model to DeRoussel. It was exactly what she was looking for: A real estate brokerage that could give her the feeling of her own brokerage, future security, but leveraged income with stock awards, revenue share and low-cap commissions.

DeRoussel joined eXp in March 2020 after spending 15 years at ReMax where she was the No. 1 sales agent in Ohio since 2011. 

“When you put everything on paper and see what eXp brings to the table, you think it’s too good to be true,” DeRoussel said. “But it shows you how residual income is so valuable. It was actually a blessing that I got really sick, because it opened my eyes.”

DeRoussel’s Czechoslovakian upbringing for hard work has helped shape her “go big or go home” attitude. Not only is she a top real estate producer, but she speaks five languages, is a professional runner, coaches high school track and cross-country teams, and skis and ice skates on weekends.

Prior to becoming a real estate agent and moving to Cincinnati due to her husband’s job transfer, DeRoussel was an international business development sales representative for 3M in Minneapolis for seven years.

And if she has words of advice for new agents, it’s that “hard work pays off, and a positive attitude always wins.”

DeRoussel certainly has found the formula for success.
