Within one year of moving over to eXp Realty, Brett Sikora of Hoboken, New Jersey, nearly doubled his sales volume, going from $46 million to $85 million.
“I’m kind of bummed we didn’t do it, but we came awfully close,” Sikora said of nearly doubling his sales numbers.
Sikora was with a major brokerage before he made the switch to eXp Realty. And in that one-year period, he could see he was in the right place.
“eXp’s model is so well thought out,” said Sikora. “It really aligns everyone and creates a sharing environment. People have to experience it firsthand and once they do, they’ll never look back.”

Sikora’s journey to real estate had many stops and starts, but he always had an entrepreneurial spirit. While in high school, he started his own landscaping business, then sold it several years later to become a real estate agent and investor.
“I remember my first purchase ever,” Sikora said. “It was an investment property that I took cash advances on credit cards and used an 18% hard money loan to buy. I was struggling financially throughout the project but ended up profiting about $140,000. That was one of the most stressful times in my life but it taught me so much.”
Sikora bounced around among a variety of big and small real estate brokerages in New Jersey — even quitting for a while to sell cars during the 2008 market downturn — but he eventually came back to real estate, landing at a major brokerage before he turned his attention to eXp.
The Sikora Group in Northern NJ is Comprised of 17 Agents
These days, Sikora runs The Sikora Group in Northern New Jersey and has a team of 17 agents. In thinking about the overall real estate industry, he feels that many agents overcomplicate the business and go about it the wrong way.
“If you lead with value and have open conversations with buyers and sellers with no attachment to the outcome, if you just do that all day long, people choose to work with you,” he said.
“It’s about honesty, integrity and value. I see so many agents just trying to sell them something. You try to get people to their overall goal. We’re looking for lifelong partnerships with clients. We might lose a sale, but we will always have a client.”
Sikora says eXp’s collaborative and supportive environment is hands-down amazing.
“At my last brokerage, the training was agents teaching old-style techniques from a book,” said Sikora.
At eXp, the ICON agents — the best of the best — are sharing information and what works. There is a lot of collaboration here and it’s contagious if growth is important to you.”

ICON status means an agent has achieved exceptional sales volume as well as represents the company’s core values.
Sikora says eXp’s tools and technology are used extensively by his team. “We use Workplace a ton,” said Sikora. “We go to the ‘Watercooler Chat area and I’ll ask the group ‘What would you do here?’ The collaboration is amazing.”
Workplace is a Facebook communications tool that eXp uses for the entire company to collaborate together across the globe. Agents gather here to help one another work through issues and share insights.
“I started exploring eXp for the low caps and the revenue share,” Sikora said. “What I didn’t realize at the time was the collaboration side of things. I know I keep going back to that, but people really need to understand how valuable it is to have agents that truly care about you. We’re all family.”
10 Fun Things About Brett Sikora
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Relaxing with my wife wherever it may be. Being able to disconnect from work and enjoy the time with her whether we’re hiking, out on a boat, or having beers at a bar. It doesn’t take much for us to feel like we’re on vacation. It can even be a walk on the waterfront in Hoboken with the phones put away.
If you could add a tattoo, what would it be?
I actually have a large tattoo down my ribs that says “Believe.” I got it in 2008 when I had my doubts about everything. I was having trouble making ends meet and was flat out broke with a 520 credit score. I knew I was at rock bottom and needed change. People often joke with me about the tattoo because it looks stupid now, but it’s a friendly reminder of where I came from and a place I’ll never be again.
One thing you can’t live without?
Some quick weekend getaways. I love a quick recharge but not for too long or else I’ll get bored.
One trait that has led to your success?
Action. Every single day is action-packed and moving forward and it starts with the evening prior. If I’m not in bed early, I can’t produce the proper results the following day.
What celebrity would play you in a movie or TV show?
Patrick Swayze. Triple threat. Actor, singer and ballet dancer.
Pet peeve?
I can’t stand people that don’t wash their hands. I don’t get it.
Little known fact about yourself?
I really like laying around and doing absolutely nothing with my wife. I think I could live in a cabin in Alaska with just her off the grid for years.
Song you never tire of?
“The Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats. I love playing that on the jukebox at a packed bar and watching the crowd react.
Favorite meal?
Tacos all day!
