For Matthew Kemps, a love for golf became much more than a passion – it became his gateway to a thriving real estate career. Recently joining eXp Realty, Matthew and his wife Kaeli and their 10-agent team have closed 153 units and generated $73 million in sales volume in 2023, all while leveraging the same discipline and drive that defined his years on the golf course.
Matthew Took His Love of Golf to Pro Status
Born in Truckee, California, and raised in scenic places like Tahoe, Scottsdale, and Palos Verdes Estates, Matthew’s journey from the rolling greens to the competitive Austin real estate market was marked by persistence. His early years revolved around golf, especially during his time at a South Carolina boarding school, where he trained from dawn until afternoon. Although his plans to play collegiate golf hit several roadblocks, Matthew’s determination led him to pursue professional golf, eventually playing on international tours, including the European Tour in Italy.
Throughout his professional journey, Matthew built valuable connections on the greens, forming relationships that would later be instrumental to his real estate success.
“I leveraged a bunch of my business from golf,” he shares, noting that many of his clients stemmed from his network at Austin’s Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club and other exclusive golf communities.
As he transitioned to real estate full-time, Matthew embraced the luxury market, building a strong pipeline of high-end listings, including properties priced at $3.6 million and $1.2 million in Georgetown.
He Ultimately Joined eXp Through His Love of Golf
In 2024, Matthew’s path took a turn when he connected with eXp Realty agent Todd Bailey.
“I was on the couch, scrolling through Instagram and landed on Todd’s Instagram. He golfs, and I play golf as well. We have done a few transactions together in the past so I sent him a DM for us to go play golf. He explained the (eXp) model to me while we played at his club, Westlake Country Club and it all just made sense for us to move.”
That round of golf became a pivotal conversation, with Todd sharing insights into eXp Realty’s agent-centered model and its impact on his career. Inspired by Todd’s story and intrigued by eXp’s innovative platform, Matthew realized he had found the next step for his business.
“The values and support at eXp resonate with our vision for Lone Wolf Realty Group,” Matthew says.
Named after the “Wolf” golf game, Matthew and Kaeli built the Lone Wolf Realty Group, which has quickly gained traction in the Austin market.
“Kaeli has been instrumental and invaluable in growing the team, supporting it while I am on the road,” said Matthew. Their approach showcases a collaborative spirit with an independent, boutique approach. With 10 agents, a director of marketing, and an agent-in-training, the team’s plans to expand to 15 reflect the growth potential that Matthew and Kaeli envision within eXp’s network.
